Clinical Medicine

The School of Clinical Medicine is one of the most highly rated education and research institutions in Central China; School of Clinical Medicine offers unparalleled opportunities to study medicine in this area. Our graduates play leading roles in health fields around the world, and our research investigates diseases which affect millions of lives.

The School of Clinical Medicine is composed of nine clinical colleges, covering all the clinical disciplines. The School of Clinical Medicine, besides providing specialist clinical services to the people of Henan Province, plays a key role in the training of health care professionals at at tertiary and quaternary level, and undertake research in the clinical sciences.

Clinical training at undergraduate and postgraduate level are primarily delivered in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, the Henan People’s Hospital, Zhengzhou Central Hospital, Henan Carcinoma Hospital, Luoyang Central Hospital.

At undergraduate level, the School's primary responsibility is for students in the fourth to sixth years of the MBBS curriculum. Though many lectures and tutorials are delivered on the campus of the medical school, still the bulk of teaching takes place in these hospitals, largely in the form of bedside tutorials and supervision of the interaction of students with patients in the course of the routine clinical management of patients.

Our Graduate program is designed to be an excellent education and training platform, on which, excellent clinicians can build a career in medicine, and provide competent, diligent and ethical care to the community. The majority of postgraduate students within the school are graduates in medicine intending to specialize in perticular fields. We also offer Master of Medical Science and PhD programs for students who wish to pursue a research or academic career.

According to new Chinese policy, all medical professional master programs should be instructed in Chinese language,as well as the thesis writing and oral defense. The academic medical master programs and other bachelor or doctor program can be instructed in both Chinese and English.

The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University

The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University now is one of the major health care hubs and provides vital medical and health facilities for the whole country. As the largest Level-3/Grade-A hospital in Henan, it integrates medical treatment, prevention, health care and recuperation, along with teaching and research. It has the distinctions of being a National Baby Friendly Hospital, and being recognized as among the best in China. Currently, the hospital has two precincts, the old one and a new one in the Zhengdong New District. It presently covers an area of 158,000 m2 for 93 clinical departments, 136 wards and 5,000 beds; it handles over 4.2 million ambulatory care visits and over 300,000 inpatient admissions, including 160,000 surgical operations. A further development will cover an area of 230,000 m2 with 3,000 beds, now under construction. The hospital is also extremely well-equipped. Its facilities include an advanced CT Hybrid Operation Room, an MRI Hybrid Operation Room and a DSA Hybrid Operation Room, all of the highest international standards.

The health and medical staff number more than 7,300 of whom about a third have higher research qualifications. The hospital has undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs which include foreign students. Annually, nearly 600 students graduate with doctoral or master's degrees and there are over 2,000 trainees from Henan and other provinces of China.

In keeping with international trends and developments in clinical science, the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University seeks to maintain and advance Henan province’s diagnostic and management competencies with special reference to those to do with organ function and failure- cardiac, CNS respiratory, renal and heapatic. Outstanding leadership is to be found in the departments of E.N.T and ophthalmology and in Gynaecology & Obstetrics. Noteworthy is its success in the cure of chronic myelocytic leukemia by isogenic peripheral blood stem cell transplantation as well as in the wider treatment of leukaemia by derived stem cell transplantation.

Research facilities have been improved with 5 Academician-led programs, 3 post-doctoral research stations, 13 provincial laboratories and 30 on-site research institutes in addition to departmental laboratories. Project funding has come from a wide range of sources, including what is known as the “863” Scientific and technological project fund, and the National natural science fund along with Henan provincial and institutional departmental contributions. There have been prestigious awards, among them for the Prevalence Characteristics of Blood-transmitted HIV Infection and Establishment and Research of Its Preventive Measures from China Medical Science.
