The Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) has established the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Scholarship) for eligible Chinese language teachers outside of China, with full coverage on tuition fee, accommodation fee, living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance expenses. Confucius Institutes, independent Confucius Classrooms, selected HSK test centers, foreign educational institutions, Chinese language teacher training programs/Chinese departments at foreign universities, professional associations for Chinese language teaching, Chinese embassies abroad (hereinafter collectively referred to as Recommending Institutions) may recommend outstanding students and in-service Chinese language teachers to further their studies in international Chinese language education and related programs at Chinese universities (hereinafter referred to as Host Institutions).
As the host institution, Zhengzhou University's enrollment categories include Bachelor’s degree in Chinese International Education, Master’s degree in Chinese International Education, one-academic-year study and one-semester study.
a) Non-Chinese citizens;
b) Should be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school;
c) In good physical and mental conditions, and with a good record of academic performance and conduct;
d) Aspiring to work in the Chinese language education and related fields;
e) Aged between16 and 35 (up to 1 September), with the special allowance for the age limit of 45 for applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers and that of 25 for undergraduate student applicants.
A. Chinese Language Teacher Program
a) Scholarship for Master’s Degree in Chinese International Education
The program commences in September and provides scholarship for a maximum of two academic years. Applicants shall hold a Bachelor’s degree, and have a minimum score of 220 on the HSK Test (Level 6) as well as 65 on the HSKK test (Advanced Level).Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or a proof to the same effect.
b) Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese International Education
The program commences in September and provides scholarship for a
maximum of four academic years. Applicants shall hold a senior high school
diploma and a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 4) as well as 60 on
the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).
c) Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study
The program commences in September, and provides scholarship for a maximum of eleven months.
(1) Chinese International Education
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK 4 and HSKK score.
(2) Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy, etc.
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK 5 and 60 in HSKK (Intermediate Level).
(3) Chinese Language Study
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK 3. Priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score.
d) Scholarship for One-Semester Study
The program commences either in September or March, and provides scholarship of a maximum of five months.
(1) Chinese International Education
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK 4 and HSKK score.
(2) Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy, etc
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK 5. An HSKK test score is required.
B. Scholarship for Online Program
a) Online Program for One-year Chinese Language Study commences in September or March each year. A general Chinese proficiency test score of 180 in HSK (Level 3) is required, and HSKK scores are preferred.
b) Online Program for One-Semester Chinese Language Study commences in September or March each year. Generally, applicants must have an HSK score (no specific requirements for level or score).
Online registration will be available from March 1 on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website (http://www.chinese.cn). You may search for Recommending Institutions and Host Institutions; submit application materials online; and track the application process. The successful applicant must confirm with the Host Institutions to go through the procedures of studying in China, and register at the Host Institution on the designated date as per the Letter of Admission.
APPLICATION DEADLINES (Beijing Time) :
a) For program in July, applicants must complete their applications before April 15, and recommending institutions and host institutions must complete reviewing before April 25.
b) For program in September, applicants must complete their applications before May 15, and recommending institutions and host institutions must complete reviewing before May 25.
c) For program in December, applicants must complete their applications before September 15, and recommending institutions and host institutions must complete reviewing before September 25.
d) For program in March 2027 applicants must complete their applications before October 31, 2026, and recommending institutions and host institutions must complete reviewing before November 10, 2026.
a) In-Service Chinese Language Teachers
In-service Chinese language teachers need to provide proof of employment and a letter of recommendation from the employer.
b) Chinese Bridge Winners
Applicants who have received the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate during Chinese Bridge competitions need to submit their application documents along with their scholarship certificates to the Host Institutions directly at the International Chinese Language TeachersScholarship website.

d) Degree students are subject totheannualassessmentaccording to the AnnualAssessment Procedures of the International Chinese LanguageTeachers Scholarship.
e) Please contact the Host Institutions for enrollment matters.
f) Students who fail to pass the pre-enrollment medical examination, withdraw from school before completing the program, fail to register at the university without prior permission, or suspend their studies will be disqualified for the scholarship.
