Liberal Arts
The school of Liberal Arts was established in 1956, with 101 staff, including 83 full-time teachers among them 23 are professors, 31 are associate professors and 27 are lecturers. There are 14 doctoral supervisors and 51 master supervisors. More than 80% of teachers have doctoral degrees. At present, there are nearly 900 undergraduate students and 450 Master students and 50 PHD students.
The school of Liberal Arts has two undergraduate programs: Chinese language and literature and International Chinese Language Education. It has one first-class master's degree in Chinese language and literature, one first-class doctor's degree, and a post-doctoral research station in Chinese language and literature. Programs of various levels offered in this School is shown in the following table.
Henan is the birthplace of Chinese Civilization and Chinese Characters. It has rich ancient written materials represented by Oracle Bone Inscriptions and a deep foundation of Chinese culture. The school of Liberal Arts has a variety of scientific research platforms, such as “The Chinese Character Civilization Research Center”, “Central China Culture Research Center”, “Ancient Chinese Literature and Philology Research Center”, “Hakka Culture and Chinese Literature Research Institute”, “Yellow River Literature and Culture Research Center”, etc.
Since the establishment of this school, many well-known scholars have governed and worked here such as Er Yuehe, Gong Yiqun, Liu Weihan, Lan Ling and etc. At the same time, over 40 outstanding experts at home and abroad have been engaged, they often give lectures and make academic exchanges in this school.
Every year, over 100 Chinese teacher volunteers are sent to Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and other countries by the school of liberal Arts. cooperative research programs have been carried out with universities in Vietnam, Malaysia, and other countries.
