A. Brief Introduction
This program is rated as first-level key discipline of “ecology” in Henan Province, equipped with Henan Key Laboratories, Henan University Key Open Laboratories, Henan Demonstration Lesson Center, Henan Scientific Innovation Team providing support for the scientific research and teaching of this program. Now, this program possesses strong faculty team, including 5 professors, associate professors, and 16 PhD degree holders, as well as 1 national level candidate of new century talents projects, one enjoying special government allowance and 2 provincial level academic and technology foregoers ofHenanProvince. And now this program has undertaken over 20 scientific research tasks, including 973 Plan projects, national 948 scientific special projects and Natural Science Foundation funded projects, and ect. In the past 5 years, we have achieved 5 China and US authorized patents, win 6 scientific and technological achievements passed Henan achievements identification, and 8 awards including first prizes of Henan scientific-technical progress and first prizes of Henan Education Department scientific and technological achievements, and published over 200 academic research papers.
B. Training Objectives
Postgraduates of this program should master solid basic theories and systemic professional knowledge of this discipline; master modern experimental methods and skills in this discipline; know develop status quo and trend of their research area; master one kind of foreign language; possess strong creative ability and practical ability, and finally reach the academic level of master’s degree stipulated in “The People’s Republic of China Regulations of Academic Degree”.
C. Program Duration
The program duration of postgraduate is normally 3 years. The maximum duration for degree application is 4 year, namely from the entrance of postgraduate to the passing of dissertation through the discussion of School Degree Evaluation Committee. Outstanding postgraduate who finishes training plan and satisfies graduation standards, can achieve master’s degree and graduate in advance through stipulated procedures as “ZhengZhou University Temporary Provisions for Graduation in Advance” shows.
D. Research Area:
1. Plant Stress Physiology & Molecular Ecology
In this area, researches concerning molecular mechanism of plant adverse resistance reposing physiology and sustainable utilization researches on stress resistance resources are conducted, including assessment and screening of plant resources resistance (drought resistance, disease resistance, and salt resistance), molecular mechanism of resistance responding, and excavation and utilization of resistance gene resources.
2. Animal Ecology and Conservation Biology
In this area, the following researches are conducted: 1. researches on the influence brought by mice to the regeneration of forest vegetation in forest degradation areas with the theory guidance of animal&plant co-evolution and behavioral ecology; 2. researches on the ecology of macaques in Tai-hang Mountains and protection biological studies- the only research on non-human primates in Henan Province; 3. Biological studies on underground rats (brown vole); 4. Researches on insect biodiversity and protection.
3. Molecular Ecology Process and Mechanism of Microalgae Carbon Sequestration
In this area, transgenetic dunaliella bioreactor is worked as technology platform, the efficiency of CO2 utilization by dunaliella and the fat content in this plant are improved by adopting genetic engineering technology, and automatic open dunaliella culture system is established and new process which is able to extract biodiesel from dunaliella is developed, providing high quality algae species for the production of biofuel.
E. Dissertation
Dissertation is an important part in cultivating students’ abilities in comprehensively applying learned knowledge to analyze and solve practical problems. Postgraduate after finishing all courses and achieving corresponding credits in training plan starts dissertation writing to achieve dissertation credits.
1. Proposal
Proposal is the first step of dissertation writing. Students should study relevant literature and conduct necessary investigation systematically under the guidance of their supervisors. Through literature consultation, students should know the develop trend in their research area, and complete literature review and topic selection report, then through supervisors’ approval and agreement, students should finish proposal report in the 3th term. Postgraduate proposal is organized by this school. And thesis should state selected topic basis, research approach, expected target and achievements, and work plan.
2. Mid-term Assessment
Mid-term is a necessary part in checking students’ comprehensive abilities, dissertation progress, guiding their dissertation direction, improving dissertation quality. The mid-term assessment should be conducted in the end of the 4th term.
3. Dissertation
According to national postgraduate requirements, research project should last no less than 1 year, dissertation should be no less than 30,000 words, and includes new viewpoints and certain application value. In dissertation, concepts should be accurate, inference precise, content understandable, data reliable, and structure integrate. Students must pass pre-defense before dissertation defense. Original experimental data should be checked and signed by supervisors and then filed. Academic papers published during their study in this university should be treated as the “ZhengZhou University Postgraduate Published Academic Paper Requirement”stipulates
Students who obtain all credits listed in training plan and pass dissertation defense will be qualified and allowed to graduate, and will be awarded to master’s degree after school degree committee approving and university degree committee permitting. Degree awarding will be permitted based on “Zhengzhouuniversity Degree Awarding Implementation Details” and other degree management files.
