Physics is the discipline of studying the most general laws and material basic structures of matter motion. As a leading subject of natural science, the study of physics to the universe, from elementary particles of all substances such as the most basic form of movement and law, is the basis of the research on other natural sciences. At present, the Physics Department of the School of Physical Engineering of Zhengzhou University belongs to the key discipline of the Ministry of Education, and has two professional directions, such as theoretical physics and condensed matter and Optics physics.
1.Theoretical physics
Theoretical physics is a subject to study the basic structure of the material and the basic law of motion. It is not only the theoretical basis of physics, but also related to other fields of physics and natural science. Theoretical physics attempts to understand the mechanism of all physical phenomena by building mathematical models for the real world. It tries to understand and predict physical phenomena by means of physical theory. At present, the specialty of theoretical physics in the school of physical engineering, Zhengzhou University has the directions of non-equilibrium statistics and complex systems, particle physics theory, low dimensional physics and material calculation and design and so forth. There are dozens of articles published on Science, Nature Materials, Physical Review Letters, Journal of American Chemical Society, Nano Letters, Physical Review B, Physical Review D, Journal of High Energy Physics, and so on.
2.Condensed Matter Physics
The specialty of Condensed Matter Physics of Zhengzhou University, which is mainly based on the Key Laboratory of Material Physics, the Ministry of Education, the Key Laboratory of Diamond Optoelectronic Materials and Devices of Henan Province, and the Engineering Center for Semiconductor Silicon Material of Henan Province, is one of the national key disciplines granted by the Ministry of Education, China. Presently, the main seven research areas include: (1) Diamond optoelectronic materials and devices; (2) Semiconductor nanomaterials and devices (Light-emitting Diodes and Photodectors); (3) Energy nanomaterials and devices (Solar cells and Lithium-ion battery; (4) Sensing nanomaterials and sensors (Gas sensors and Biological detector); (5) Nano-powders and Functional ceramics; (6) Metal physics and light metal alloys; (7) Calculation and simulation of materials. The specialty possesses a strong teaching staff and large quantities of advanced equipments for scientific research. In the past three years, it has completed over 20 national projects, published over 150 high-quality scientific papers. At the same time, the specialty has trained a large number of professional talents for the society.
3.Optics
There are 4 full professors, 6 associate professors and 8 lecturers working in the institute of optoelectronic information, School of Physics & Engineering, Zhengzhou University. The institution is also selected as one of the cultivation base of key laboratory of photonics and electronics of Henan Province. Besides, there is a China-Belarus laser technology research center in the institution. The optics group is the Innovation team of Zhengzhou city. The institution has 5 super clean optics laboratories and several material synthesis laboratories. It possesses a high power femtosecond laser and a Topas, a TeraHerz spectrometer, a Raman spectrometer, multiple space light modulators, X-ray diffractometer, Magnetron sputtering machine, electrochemical workstation, piezoelectric and dielectric measurement instruments, etc. The main research directions involve nano-photonics & electronics (metamaterials and plasmonics), imaging science and devices, quantum information, nano-energy devices and negative thermal expansion materials.

First of all, applications are advised to contact supervisor and submit a set of documents(CV, research proposal draft, degree certificate, transcripts and reference letters). In this stage you can confirm the field of study & instruction language, and revise your research proposal accordingly. Secondly applicants can submit your application online after the inforamtion confirmation and proposal revision. There will be two intakes each year, March and September respectively, the deadline of application for each intake is December31 and June 30 respectively.
Zhengzhou University offers 3 million US dollars each year with full president scholarship to sponsor all excellent candidates to pursue their doctor progoram study at ZZU. Students who intend to apply for scholarship should submit their applications as early as possible. For more information of scholarship, please visit our website of scholarship.
All applications and supporting documents have to be submitted via the on-line application system by the appropriate closing date. To submit an on-line application, please visit our website: http://zzu.17gz.org/member/login.do
Applicants who wish to apply for admission to more than one department should submit one complete set of the on-line application form and supporting documents for each proposed department of study.
The University views any act of cheating and plagiarism as of the utmost seriousness and it is a form of academic misdemeanor that the University will not tolerate. To discourage plagiarism, the University will: 1. Inspect all original documents at the time of registration; 2. Conduct a plagiarism check on the application materials submitted by the applicants, including the research proposal, research plan and vision statements, before offer of admission.
