Thus, they are able to engage in scientific research, teaching, production, and technical management in this discipline or related fields.
B. Program Duration
The general duration of this program is 3 years, including 1-2 years’ course study. Graduates who fulfill this training plan ahead of schedule and conform to graduation requirements are able to graduate and apply for degree in advance through self application, agreement of supervisor and the school, and approval of this university. In particular cases, students approved can graduate with one year extension
C. Research Area
1. Applied Microbiology & Microbial Biotechnology
This research area is a significant study and application field of microbiology, bases on bio-transformation, degradation, and fermentation of microorganism, conducts multidiscipline cross-field research among microbiology and related disciplines. The research field involves agricultural product processing microbiology, food microbiology, industrial microbiology, and environmental microbiology, studies and develops new microbial resources and microbial biotechnology, provides theoretic foundation and application technologies for the development of new products, new technologies and new resources, as well as for quality improvement, and yield increasing.
2. Microbial Metabolism and Molecular Microbiology
This research area based on microbial metabolism and fermentation physiology, research basic theories and application technologies in microbial metabolism and fermentation. In this area metabolic regulation, gene expression and regulation, molecular genetic maker and transgenic technology are adopted in metabolic engineering research to reconstruct microbial metabolism and to cultivate high yield, high quality, and resistant new varieties, improve the biosynthesis and conversion efficiency of target products, including medicine, food and other light industrial products.
D. Dissertation
Dissertation is an important part in cultivating students’ abilities in comprehensively applying learned knowledge to analyze and solve practical problems. Postgraduate should spend at least one and half years in working on scientific research and dissertation writing. Students should study relevant literature and conduct necessary investigation systematically under the guidance of their supervisors. Through literature consultation, students should know development trend in their research area, and complete literature review and topic selection report, then through supervisors’ approval and agreement, students should finish proposal report in the end of the 3th term, then report to the graduate school for reference. The dissertation should combines with scientific research as far as possible, and its topic should have theoretical significance or practical significance for the development of this discipline. Topic selection report must be finished before the 4th term, state research status of this topic at home and abroad, issues to be solved, main theories to be adopted, and related methods, data, technological means, experimental condition, schedule, and expected results for the discussion and audition of expert group and supervisors. In one word, dissertation should be theoretically or practically useful. In dissertation, concepts should be accurate, inference precise, content understandable, data reliable, and structure integrated. Students must pass pre-defense before dissertation defense. Original experimental data should be checked and signed by supervisors and then filed. Before dissertation defense, proposal report and pre-defense should be conducted. The requirements and procedures of dissertation defense see “Zhengzhouuniversity Degree Awarding Implementation Details” .
